Peltola emerged as the winner on Wednesday

When the Alaska Department of Elections tabulated rank-choice ballots in the state's first use of the system.

With her victory, the former state legislator will overturn a nearly half-century-long seat held by the late GOP representative Don Young.

And set to become the first Alaska Native in Congress.
